Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell
As per the guidelines of the UGC and the Supreme Court GOI, an Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell has been constituted by the college to promote & ensure a congenial atmosphere to all, particularly to girl- students and to some extent to the female members of the teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.
Objectives of the Cell:–
To develop guidelines and norms for policies against sexual harassment
To develop principles and procedures to combat sexual harassment
To work out details for the implementation these policies.
To prepare a detailed plan of actions, both short and long term
To organize gender sensitization awareness programme.
What is Sexual Harassment?
Sexual harassment includes the following:–
Physical contact and advances;
A demand or request for sexual favours;
Verbal or physical threats or
Showing pornography; or
Any unwelcome physical, verbal or non-verbal conduct of sexual nature.
Suggestive comments or illicit gestures
The following are also considered sexual harassment:–
Eve-teasing
Jokes causing or likely to cause embarrassment
Gender based insults or sexist remarks
Unwelcome sexual overtone in any manner such as over telephone (obnoxious telephone calls) and the like
Touching or brushing against any part of the body and the like
Displaying pornographic or other offensive or derogatory pictures, cartoons, pamphlets or sayings
Forcible physical touch or molestation
Physical confinement against one’s will and any other act likely to violate one’s privacy
Functionalities of the cell: —
Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell of our college, as evident from the name itself, deals with issues relating to sexual harassment.
The committee is formed to prevent sexual assault and other related crimes on students, teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.
The students are made aware of the motto and functionalities of the cell through the college prospectus, website & the induction meeting.
In the event of occurrence of an untoward event, a written complaint related to sexual harassment can be lodged by the complainant directly to the Principal, the Convener or any other member of the cell.
After getting the written complaint the committee holds a meeting immediately within the presence of both the complainant and accused.
The committee allows an equal opportunity to both the complainant and accused to support his or her opinions and arguments respectively.
The committee takes all possible endeavors to complete its proceedings within a period of 15 days from the date of receipt of the complaint.
The committee records its findings with documentary evidence and forwards the same with the recommendations of the Cell to the Principal with in a period of further 5 days.
Finally, the Principal takes the necessary action in consultation with the Governing Body of the college.
