PROFILE OF THE B.ED DEPARTMENT
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
The B.Ed. Deptt. was introduced in Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya in the session 1965-66 with the affiliation of Calcutta University in terms of Memo. No.C/35/122-afft. Dt. 07-07-1965. From the session 1985-86 the department came under the affiliation of V.U. as per the GOVT. policy and affiliation was obtained the terms of memo no.983-Edn.(U),dt 23-05-1985, It has since been fulfilling the burning need of traning of the Secondary teachers with a galaxy
of scholarly teacher-educators and now it has become the oldest secondary Teachers Training Centre in the Purba Medinipur district.
The department started with an intake capacity of 125 of which 63 are meant for deputed teachers and 62 seats for fresher candidates initially the subjects which were taught in this English, History, Social Science, Mathematics, Civics
& Economics and Elective subjects like Mental Hygiene and Mental & Educational Measurement. Subsequently’ two other method subjects- Geography and Physical Science (from 2003) were introduced considering the need of the trainees. From the very beginning five full-time faculty posts were sanctioned and in 2006 teo more posts have been sanctioned and the appointment of these posts by the C.S.C, W.B.is under process. It has since been enriched with a host of teacher-educators like Prof. Santosh Kr. Ghosh, Prof. Gourdas Halder, Prof.Upendra Nah Manna, Prof. Ashoke Gupta, Prof. Nirmal Chandra Das and Prof. Nimai Chandra Maity whose dedicate efforts make the department glorious.
The dept. provides advanced facilities in learning through Educational Technology Lab; Psychology Lab and Geography Lab, Physical Sc. Lab. All these laboratories are equipped with necessary apparatus and equipment in keeping with the guidelines of N.C.T.E. The dept. monitors the performance of the students through regular class tests, practice teaching micro-teaching demonstration lessons, remedial measures, like personal counselling, tutorial, remedial coaching etc. It also assesses the co-curricular activities throughout the year The Dept. has a unique achievement in conducting the educational tours and publishing annual printed journal- ‘ LIPIKA’.
Besides bearing the burden of teaching, the faculty members are always trying for upgrading themselves by attending libraries, participating in workshop and seminars, publishing articles in journals, acting as evaluator and member of different administrative bodies.
B) Objectives of the Department
I. To improve the quality of teaching in secondary schools by supplying efficient trained teachers.
II. To enable the students to offer employment in the sphere of the teaching and administration.
III. To enable the student to get admission to M.Ed./ M.A (Education) course.

DETAILS OF LABORATORY:
a) Physical Science Laboratory:- Physical Science Laboratory of area 800 sq. Ft. Has six large desks cum work tables each table providing space for practical work for four to six students. It is well equipped with different experiments.
b) Psychology Laboratory: Psychology has the space of 400 sq. Ft. Area. The laboratory contains equipments for different psychological test.
c) Geography Laboratory: It has area 300 sq. ft and it is also well equipped by different experiments.
Educational Technology and Media Laboratory::
ARRANGEMENT MADE FOR PRACTICE TEACHING:
Practice teaching classes are held for 30working days in different schools. Students prepare their lesson plans on the concerned subjects by the day before the date before the date of their practice teaching classes and the lessons are authenticated by the teachers. During the course of practice teaching classes and the lessons are authenticated by the teachers. During the course of Practice teaching teachers supervise their classes.
