Economics was one of the major taught subjects in this college at the Intermediate Course and also at the Degree Course. It was started to be taught at the Honours level since 1961 under the affiliation granted by the University of Calcutta. It is a matter of many regrets that such an important Discipline is suffering from the widespread lack of interest on the part of the students to choose this subject.
Nevertheless, a low student-teacher ratio enhances the individual care of the students and helps in providing academic care beyond the expectation of the learners. Moreover, the curriculum also equips the students to face job-related competitive examinations with much confidence. It is within the plans of the Department to start value-added training programs on statistical tools, methods of data collection and use of statistical packages
