As it is evident in the very initial permission letter of C.U. dt. June 28, 1948, Political Science was then allowed to be taught at the Intermediate course in a different name i.e. Civics. In a normal course when Economics was totally severed from Civics and the latter was renamed as Political Science, the department was started to be called – The Dept of Political Science. Naturally the dept. is a much older dept; though the Hons Course was introduced at a later period since the session 1965 in terms of the memo No C.U.–C / 2365 /122 dt.14.05.1965.
At present, the department has a small Departmental Library as well as ICT facility. The Department also provides special care to slow learners by conducting remedial and tutorial classes. The Department boasts of an above 90% rate of pass-outs. Amongst various activities, the students of the Department regularly take part in Youth Parliaments and Quiz Competitions. The students of the Department are actively engaged in the production of the wall magazine Alolika. The Department also organises extra-curricular courses for preparation for entry in service-oriented examinations of P.S.C., S.S.C. & the like.
