Department of History PG

Department of History has been continuing to exist as one of the major taught subjects in this college at the Intermediate Course since the very inception and subsequently at the Degree Course. The University of Calcutta in 1959 granted affiliation to Hons. in this subject. Since the very beginning, the department was laid on a solid foundation by a good many highly scholarly & dedicated teachers. Even as an Honours teaching department it could boast of a museum of its own.
The department, however, started offering Post Graduate course under the affiliation of Vidyasagar University from 2013 onwards. The Department sincerely endeavours to provide the best possible guidance to the students by arranging lectures delivered by various eminent visiting professors. A number of seminars, both UGC sponsored State level and Departmental student seminars, and workshops are regularly organised. Commendable practices of the course include educational trips to various historical places for the practical understanding of the subject and project works as well.
