Department of Zoology

Department of Zoology, starting its journey as an Under-graduate pass-course department in 1969, began teaching Honours course in 1990. The Department organises classroom lectures, interactive sessions, field studies as well as significant seminars for the best benefit of the students. The lectures are held mainly as Powerpoint presentations. The students are prepared to excel both in curricular and co-curricular activities. They are made aware of various prospects and furnished with the know-how of various competitive examinations.
The department has a well-equipped departmental library with study materials, science magazine and journal subscription and question banks. Also, there is a departmental museum with a variety of fauna that numbers more than 200.
The Department of Zoology started functioning as an autonomous postgraduate Department from 2013 onwards with an intake capacity of 25 students. The P.G. department organises various workshops, seminars- both State level and National level and guides the students for project work in the fourth semester of their curriculum. Students participate in lecture competitions and district level science fairs. The Department has special extension activities like Bio-diversity study; Aquaculture practises etc.
