Department of Physiology was initially opened in the year 1969 at the U.G. Pass level under the affiliation of University of Calcutta. Honours course was introduced in this Department from 2000 onwards under the affiliation of Vidyasagar University. The performances of the students throughout the years speak of consistent success. The Department possesses a Departmental Library and also provides the students with ICT facilities. The Departmental Laboratory is also moderately well-equipped with necessary equipments that are regularly upgraded as per the need of the Honours and General students. It is equipped to facilitate the study of Histology, Biochemistry, Experimental Physiology, Sports and Respiratory Physiology, Haematology and Microbiology.

LABORATORY FACILITIES:

Physiology is the science of the functions of living organisms and their parts. As a subject, it spans from the molecular and cellular level through to organ, tissue and whole system level. It provides the bridge between scientific discoveries and their application to medical science. Our vision is to create dedicated, competent and compassionate students. So the Department takes into account to provide all instrumental and chemical facilities to the students to pursue experiments pertaining to their syllabus. The Department has a Biochemistry Lab, Histology Lab and Experimental Physiology Lab. Laboratory staffs along with the aid of the teaching faculty help the students to prepare chemical reagents for experiments, get hands on training on different laboratory analytical equipments. Internet enabled computer labs with different analysing softwares also help students to implement and experiment knowledge acquired in classroom.

LIBRARY FACILITY:

Central Library of Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya plays a pivotal role in the teaching-learning process of the College. It is the fulcrum of all academic activities. The primary mission of the library is to support the educational and research programs by providing access to rich physical and digital repositories of learning resources. The Library has a rich collection of books, valuable reference books, journals, and innumerable e-books, e-journals, and other resources for the use of its members. Besides, the library is a member of NLIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) which is part of UGC Infonet Digital Library Consortium to extend e-resources to colleges. The central library also provides access to periodicals, multimedia resources, guides to competitive exams etc.
Along with the central library, seminar libraries are also maintained by the Department. The Departmental library has been built up to provide easy access to books to the students. The departmental library consists mainly of text books and a few reference books. Students can borrow books from the Departmental Library with the permission of the concerned teacher of the Department.

COMPUTER LABORATORY:

High Speed Internet enabled computers are installed in the Department for the students to access. This provides an environment for the students to implement and experiment knowledge acquired in classroom. They can access journals and current updates in relevant academic topic of their syllabus in between classes. They can also pursue materials for their projects and class presentations.

SMART CLASSROOM

The Department also has the Smart Class concept in practice. What might otherwise seem dull or monotonous with just chalk and board becomes bright, and captivating in the flash and animation movies, which re-affirm the concepts already taught in class. E-learning and smart classroom aims at developing the students learning ability as the entire chapters become more interesting to study and hence improve the results of the students. Besides, the smart classroom also imparts a two way communication among students and teachers where, students are also given opportunity to make presentations and represent topics as class seminar. This enables good vocabulary, improve subject concept and enrich self-expression capability among students.

ACTIVITIES:

Extra-curricular activities form an integral part of a student’s overall development. Various activities are conducted from time to time to provide an opportunity to the budding talents. It provides a remarkable threshold to the students to groom themselves in all aspects and present their unique talent. The students participate with full zeal and vigor while keeping the competitive spirits high. Students engage in Inter and Intra College Art, Debate, Extempore and Sports activities. Social/cultural activities not only help students to identify themselves with the institution, but also assist students to develop themselves in a desired field and also improve skills such as organizational, presentation, leadership and interpersonal communication.
Parent–teacher conferences usually happen once or twice a year. They are brief meetings, lasting about 10–30 minutes. Conferences focus on learning, although behavior and social concerns are also discussed. The teachers review the student’s progress, including strengths and areas in need of improvement. Parent teacher meeting covers the distance among three stakeholders i.e. parent, teacher and student. PTM opens a communication channel that provides an opportunity to exchange daily experience and observation which in turn provide better learning outcome.
The Department also organizes educational tours and visit to higher learning centers as per requirement in the course curriculum.
